Daughter of the Sea | Poem by Rohan Biswas | Phoenix
Daughter of the Sea
They speak of a mermaid who roams the shore,
A daughter of the sea, a legend of lore.
None have seen her, none believe,
But I, a wanderer, saw her one eve.
The vibrant moon made her face glow,
When she appeared where the waters flow.
I shall not let anyone find,
How her gaze heals,
Even the most troublesome mind.
My heart sank deep into the sea,
Persuading myself, to keep this within me,
For she might reject my love,
And choose to flee.
The world must never know
The power she holds,
For they might come, searching for her,
To claim her soul.
So, I return everyday to where I saw her first,
And wait for hours from dawn till dusk.
Some days I catch a glimpse of her
When the sun has set.
But some days, she’s not there,
When the shore is full, and I feel bare.
Perhaps she knows, or maybe she doesn’t,
An unspoken love, the heart's burden.
The sea kept its secret, so did I.
Time will tell, if our paths align.
Or she might always be, a dream of mine.
