Beneath the Silence | Poem by Rohan Biswas | Phoenix
Beneath the Silence
How many times must I betray myself
Until the one I thought would give me solace
Finally sees the scars I carry—
Scars forced upon me
In the name of love?
How long must I stay silent
With chains tightening around my neck
Before they understand—
I am still just a child
Even when surviving feels like a punishment?
I better not utter a word
As I stand still in silence.
For I will be free one day,
And then I can make all the noise,
And dance,
Cause no soul will there be,
To threaten what I will have rightfully gained.
